Leaves
Today, we answered some of our questions about leaves. We learned why leaves change color by doing an experiment. We chopped up some leaves, and put them in a jar with some rubbing alcohol. We put the jars in hot water. We put some coffee filters in the jars to see what colors come out of the leaves. We saw yellow! We learned that leaves are only green because the water from the tree makes them have chlorophyl! When they can't get water because they are starting to fall off the tree, they don't make the green color anymore. Then, you can see the real color.
We also made leaf rubbings, looked at leaves with a magnifying glass, and learned about colors by seeing what colors and inside black markers. When you drop water on black marker ink it turns blue!
